Tim Weyand wins 2nd Seniors title in 2nd 2024 EDGA Event

Posted: July 18th, 2024

In 2022, Tim Weyand captured his first seniors title and it was half a round of spectacular play and half a round of hanging on for the win. In his second victory it was solid and steady play on a difficult Kahkwa layout under difficult playing conditions. His round included 3 birdies offset by 3 bogies to card a round of even par 72.

His victory was only by one shot over Rob Nicotra who tried to use the same formula that Weyand had used for his first title, get out and under par early and then hang on. Unfortunately, Weyand’s formula was the winning one. Nicotra offset a bogey on the first with birdies on 2, 4, and 5. After a par on 6 he stood at two-under but at that point the siren indicated dangerous weather and the play was delayed for about 3 hours. Upon resuming, Nicotra bogied 7 and 8 and then also 11 and 14 needing 2 closing birdies to forge a tie. He birdied the 17th but could not convert on 18 for the tie. R.C. Chase was the leader in the clubhouse for some time with 75 and finished 3rd.

On the net side, R.C. Chase claimed the title with a net score of 72. There was a four-way tie for the trophy which was decided by a scorecard playoff. The others shooting 72 were Homer Capotis, Weyand, and Nicotra. The playoff was decided by Chase’s net eagle 2 on 17.
