Defending Champ Cozad holds first round lead in EDGA Am

Posted: August 14th, 2020

Tyler Cozad picked up right where he left off a year ago … atop the leaderboard. Cozad fired an even par 72 for the first round of the 100th EDGA Amateur which is being held at the Kahkwa Club. Strong winds made for a stern test for the 87 players as no one was able to break par.

There is a 4-way tie for second at 1-over 73. The group includes 1979 Champion Ed Podufal, 2-time match play runner up (2019-20) Matt Barto, former Kahkwa assistant pro Alex Weir, and Mercyhurst University junior Jack Angelucci.

Rounding out the top 10 is a group of 5 players at 2-over par 74 including 2010 Champion Drew Deimel, Evan Rowane who finished 3rd last year, Jon Merriot, Ryan Ferry and Connor Bennink.

The cut for tomorrow’s second round came at 83. There will be 50 players hoping to make it to the final round which will be the top 24 and ties.
