The Coleman domination continues
The Ron Coleman reign continues as he captured yet another EDGA major with a sound 4&3 defeat of David Hewett in the 38th EDGA Match Play championship. Coleman also becomes the all-time leader in EDGA majors with 7 (5 Match and 2 Amateur) surpassing Brett Kieffer (3,3) David Ciacchini (5,1) and Tom Amendola (3,3) and is tied with David Ciacchini as the all-time match play king with 5 victories.
The match was close most of the way with Hewett gaining a one up advantage with a birdie on 3. Coleman would win #4 after an errant Hewett tee shot, and then #7 with a birdie and then #8 after another errant tee shot by the runner up. Hewett would cut that lead back to 1 on 10 but Coleman would reclaim the 2 up lead after Hewett found trouble down the left side of the 12th. Coleman closed out the match with a par on 14 and a birdie on 15 for the 4&3 victory.
This was Hewett’s 6th runner up finish (3 match, 3 amateur). Coleman also continued to build on his match winning streak which now sits at 20. Also along the way Hewett became the leader in match play appearances with 30, surpassing the previous mark by Tom Amendola of 29.
